This new project involved the renovation and modernization of a 3-family in Central Square.
The design approach involved converting the existing apartments from 2 bedroom/1 bath layouts into 3 bed room/2 bath layouts. The unfinished basement was excavated (creating greater headroom), the foundation was reinforced and an underground drainage system was installed. This added infrastructure provided the opportunity to convert the ground floor apartment into a 4 bedroom/3 bath duplex and to create laundry and storage space in the rear of the basement.
Value to Client:
Four additional bedrooms. New high-efficiency heating and cooling system in each apartment. Electrical and plumbing systems modernized. New fire protection systems installed.
Regulatory hurdles:
Cambridge ZBA and Planning Board.
